The Windsor Spitfires proudly announced that Mr. Marcel Pronovost and Mr. Igor Larionov will serve as the honourary captains for Team OHL and Team Russia respectively in Windsor’s SUBWAY® Super Series game.

Mr. Pronovost, a standout defenseman and native of Lac la Tortue, Quebec, enjoyed a storied hockey career as he participated in over 1200 NHL games in 20 seasons and was part of five Stanley Cups championship teams, four as a member of the Detroit Red Wings (1950, 1952, 1954, 1955) and one with the Toronto Maple Leafs (1967).  Mr. Pronovost was also selected as an NHL All-Star four times and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978.  Following his playing days, he coached in the CHL, QMJHL, NHL and OHL for 13 seasons, including stints with the Buffalo Sabres (1977-79) as the team’s head coach, two seasons as an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings (1980-1982) and one season as the head coach of the Windsor Spitfires (1982-1983).  Mr. Pronovost currently works as a scout, entering his 20th season with the New Jersey Devils and has won three Stanley Cups during his tenure with the team (1995, 2000 and 2003), bringing his total count of Stanley Cups earned to eight in his legendary career.  The Windsor Spitfires also honoured Mr. Pronovost’s #4 in 2005, as he wore this number with the Spitfires and played in Windsor to start his career from 1947-1949.

Mr. Larionov, a cerebral centre nicknamed “The Professor”, was considered one of top hockey players in the world and is a Russian hockey icon that helped lead the Russian National team to the 1981 Canada Cup Championship and has also won several World Championship titles for his native country.  The Voskresensk, Russia native arrived to the NHL from Russia in 1989 and played centre for 11 seasons in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks, San Jose Sharks, Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers, participating in over 900 NHL games and amassing 169 goals and 475 assists for 674 points during his exceptional career.  Mr. Larionov also won three Stanley Cups with the Red Wings (1997, 1998 and 2002) and was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008.
