Coach Babcock Leads Local Hockey Stars in Olympic Celebration

Windsor, Ont. - The City of Windsor is proud to welcome Detroit Red Wings Head Coach Mike Babcock as keynote speaker to Caesars Windsor, Augustus Ballroom on Wednesday, November 4 at 5:30pm.  An Evening of Sport Recognition is a lead up event that will raise awareness in our region to the arrival of the Olympic Torch which begins its journey from Victoria, B.C. this Friday, October 30th.

Coach Babcock will lead the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team during the Winter Games determined to bring home the gold in the Olympic host country, Canada.  The Winter Games officially begin with opening ceremonies on February 12, 2010.

RBC and Coca Cola the nation's lead sponsors for the cross country Torch Relay, will join the City of Windsor to host An Evening of Sport Recognition and include presentations by Mayor Eddie Francis,  Adam Graves, former NHL player and former Red Wing and Windsor Spitfire, Bob Boughner, Head Coach, President of the Windsor Spitfires 2009 Memorial Cup Champions, and Ray Grassi, Paralympian, 2010 Olympic Canadian Sledge Hockey Team and Torino, Italy - gold medalist.

One of the event highlights:  the official announcement of the Windsor Torchbearer who will be the individual to run the final 300 m to light the cauldron on stage at the Community Celebration, December 23, 2009.

Day 55 - The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay Community Celebration will be held in Windsor on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 with an evening two hour program that will showcase local and national entertainment.  The festivities include a free skate at Charles Clark Square  5:00pm - 6:00pm, followed by the community celebration to be held at the Riverfront Festival Plaza, 6:00pm - 8:00pm.  Open free to the public.
